To help celebrate the sesquicentennial we have prepared this reading map to help you explore the vast richness of the Mountain State. Use this reading map with materials for all ages - adults, teens, and children - to explore. back to page menu back to page menu “Register to start downloading magazines today!” "Instructions for downloading Zinio digital magazines" back to page menu Celebrate National Reading Group Month Saturday, October 11 Ray Room, Main Library 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Special presentation at 12 noon by Robin Nesbitt Stop by and find out about the library’s book discussion groups or learn how to start your own book group. At noon, Robin Nesbitt from the Columbus Metropolitan Library will answer all of your questions about starting or enhancing a book club. Refreshments will be provided by The Friends of The Library Foundation. Reel Teens Book Trailer Contest Teens in grades 7 through 12 have the entire summer to write and film their own trailer for a favorite book. Contestants may use live action, animation, puppetry or any other form of film making. Individual and group entries are due by close of business on Monday, Aug. 18. Entries need to be suitable for a PG audience. Video files must be smaller than 20GB in size, no more than four minutes in length and in a file format that is supported by YouTube. Entries may be posted on a YouTube account and e-mailed to joshua.myers@kanawhalibrary.org or submitted by bringing a non-returnable DVD to any KCPL location. A signed release form must also be submitted. Entries will be posted on the KCPL YouTube channel, and links will be posted daily on the library’s Facebook page for voting, from Monday, Aug. 25, through close of business on Monday, Sept. 8. Likes and Thumbs-Ups on Facebook and YouTube will be counted as votes. Winners will be announced on Friday, Sept. 12. Each entry receives a prize and cash awards will go to the top three vote getters. First place will receive $100, second place will receive $50 and third place will receive $25. All prizes are provided by The Friends of The Library Foundation of Kanawha County. Thank You ! -- VolunTEENs are an integral part of KCPL’s summer. Teens ages 12 (by May 31) to 18 earn community service hours while assisting library staff members in a variety of ways. High school graduates are not eligible. If you would like to join VolunTEENs this summer and it’s your first time, you and your parent must attend one information session. If you’re a returning VolunTEEN, you do not need to attend training; you are only required to fill out an application. Pick up an application at one of our locations or click here to download one .
